A year in the life of an oxford college boat club
Oxford is perhaps one of the most unique rowing locations in the world. The college system allows one of the largest populations of novice rowers in the country (and possibly the world), and with that comes an excitement-filled calendar.
bumps racing
With its unique situation and history, Oxford also has a very particular style of racing called Bumps racing. The boats begin racing in quick succession, with the goal being to catch the boat in front before you are caught by the boat behind. It is a thrilling watch, with thousands of spectators each year. See below for this year’s dates.
other events
More than just a rowing club, SCBC is a chance for students to meet other college members of all subjects and ages. Our year is packed with social events. See the calendar below for our main events.
Plans for the ‘24-25 Season
Here are some of the key events in the SCBC calendar. However, we run social events every week during term and often enter other friendly races throughout the year. There’s always something going on!
Michaelmas is the Autumn term in Oxford, starting in October and finishing in December. Hilary runs from January to March and Trinity is the summer term, finishing in June.
